Technology Overview
The FastFind Ranger PLB uses advanced technology packed into a simple, lightweight, palm sized unit. Using the dedicated 406MHz frequency, the FastFind Ranger transmits your unique ID and precise GNSS location to the global network of search and rescue satellites. Within minutes rescuers are alerted to your situation and receive regular updates on your location for the dual Galileo and GPS receivers. Finally, emergency services can home in on the FastFind Ranger’s 121.5MHz transmission to find you. Explore the world with peace of mind. If you find yourself in a remote area without any other form of communication, activating your McMurdo FastFind Ranger will summon emergency assistance.
Once activated, the FastFind Ranger transmits a unique ID via the global 406 MHz search and rescue satellite network. The Rescue Co-ordination Centre (RCC) then forwards details of the emergency to the appropriate local Search And Rescue (SAR) services. The FastFind Ranger features an inbuilt GPS & Galileo receivers that can pinpoint your location to within a few meters and its 121.5 MHz secondary homing transmitter means that once SAR teams are in the vicinity they are able to home in on your exact location. The McMurdo FastFind Ranger is subscription-free and does not rely on commercial call centres.
The Ranger PLB is based on the same innovative FastFind 220 PLB design with the addition of extra body moulding to offer greater protection if the unit is dropped on hard terrain.
